The Medical Center of the University of Munich is one of Europe’s largest medical complexes. It constitutes 46 clinics, institutes and departments as well as 46 interdisciplinary centres covering all branches of medicine and is one of the largest and most prestigious medical institutions in Germany. At Munich University Hospital, the Department of Palliative Medicine and the Department of Respiratory Medicine are well established. The Department of Palliative Medicine has a research focus on breathlessness and provides the first breathlessness support service in Germany. The Department of Respiratory Medicine is closely linked to the Comprehensive Pneumology Centre at Ludwig-Maximilians-University, a research centre for lung disease running both basic science and clinical research.
