The Cicely Saunders Institute (CSI) is the world leading centre for palliative care and rehabilitation.

The 2014 REF confirmed our research quality with 90% of our research rated as world leading (43%, 4*) or internationally excellent (47%, 3*). Our collaborations span all continents and encompass other universities, policy-based institutions, health, social and voluntary care providers, individual charities and patient-led organisations. The Institute has been a WHO Collaborating Centre for Palliative Care and Rehabilitation since 2008. The CSI has strands of research around the development of appropriate outcome measures, evaluation of new therapies and services, and the investigation of the needs of neglected groups. We are a multi-professional group with expertise in health services research, clinical trials, palliative care and rehabilitation research, social sciences (anthropology, psychology), medical statistics, health economics and epidemiology.
